*The Cooked and Eaten Reading Series
Dog Days of Summer Special Event
Tuesday, August 22, 8-10 pm*
Pig's Ear Tavern, 144 Brock Street
(Followed by the regular musical open mic.)

We present, for your dogged enjoyment, the dog days of summer open mic at the Pig's Ear Tavern on August 22 from 8-10. Not just a dog and pony show you'll want to dog-ear that page of your calendar and come out to see this friendly dogfight of words. We'll even feed you hot dogs. So if you make a dog-leg to the east from George Street and dog-paddle your way to the Pig's Ear you'll be doggone glad you did. Free admission to anyone wearing houndstooth, wait it's free admission to everyone (although we won't say no to a small donation). If you'd like to read, get in touch or just drop by with a 5 or 10 minute piece.

*Surreal Poetry: An Evening With Pepe
Wednesday, August 2, 2006, 7pm*
New Canadian Centre, 205 Sherbrooke Street

He is Jose Castro, but we know and love him as Pepe. He will be presenting an evening of his surrealist poetry in Spanish, with English translation. I recommend you take this opportunity to enjoy his use of sound and meter and be amazed by the compelling images he evokes.

*We're seeking readers for The 20 Minute Word Project*

The 20 Minute Word Project is heading into it's second year as part of Peterborough's ArtsWeek (Sept 23-30). If you would like to be a competitor in this literary cook-off, please let us know (date and time tba).
The rules:
Audience members add choice sentences into the pot. One sentence is pulled out to be the secret ingredient. Six writers are given 20 Minutes to cook-up a literary delecacy. The most successful concoction is chosen by the audience and the author receives a prize.

*More ThUG news - Sign Up if you want more New Theatre mail!
(Next meeting is August 6, 1-4 at the PAU)*

I apologize to anyone who didn't want their e-mail address presented to the world at large on a giant list.

That was a technical gaff on my part. It was supposed to go to my Cooked and Eaten list and was supposed to come from Cooked and Eaten instead it was sent be me to everyone at once. Have no fear, I won't be sending out another mass mailing like that.

***IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO HEAR ABOUT THE NEW SPACE, SIGN UP NOW****

Please return this e-mail or send a new one to ThUG's new address: thug@cogeco.ca, and type "sign me up" in the subject heading. I'll add your address to the rapidly growing list of people who want to be involved.

It was great to see so many people at that first meeting. if you missed it, don't worry, there will be many more meetings to come. And if you can't stand a meeting, there will be many things to do and we still need your help. Can you: paint, drywall, hammer, saw, fund-raise, put on a show, be in the audience... If you would like to do any of these things, let us know.

For those of you who want to see them, there are meeting minutes and much more information available at www.cookedandeaten.com/thug/

***There's also a poster there for the next meeting (August 6, 1-4 at the PAU). If you feel so inclined, please print off a handfull of copies and put them up in your favourite haunts.*
