MAYOR SYLVIA SUTHERLAND DECLARES SEPTEMBER 24 -OCTOBER 2, 2005, PETERBOROUGH'S FIRST ANNUAL ARTSWEEK

Mayor Sylvia Sutherland has proclaimed September 24 through October 2, 2005, ARTSWEEK, the first annual celebration of Peterborough's extraordinary arts community!

Organized by the Mayor's Centennial Celebrations Committee in honour of the City's one hundredth birthday, ARTSWEEK is a 10-day extravaganza of arts events that will showcase the artists and arts organizations that make the cultural life of this city hot!

ARTSWEEK will present a dazzling array of exhibitions and performances by local artists in and around the streets of the downtown and will offer the public an opportunity to participate in making art, to go behind the scenes at rehearsals, to see exhibitions created, to hear new music and to dance to original choreography.

Peterborough's reputation as a creative city is one of our most important assets and ARTSWEEK will highlight the imagination and achievements of the people who create the rich cultural fabric that makes this city unique.

ARTSWEEK kicks off with IMAGINE PETERBOROUGH, a publicperformance extravaganza at City Hall on Monday, September 12 at 5:30 pm. IMAGINE PETERBOROUGH is sure to launch ARTSWEEK with a bang!

Coordinated by Su Ditta and Liz Bierk, as a Centennial Legacy Project , and organized by dozens of artists and arts organizations across the City, ARTSWEEK will feature 13 special projects created just for this event and highlights all of the arts activities taking place in the city from September 9 through October 2, 2005.

ARTSWEEK is sponsored by the Mayor's Centennial Celebrations Committee, the City of Peterborough, Scotiabank, the Ontario Lottery & Gaming Corporation/Slots at Kawartha Downs, Nexicom, the Peterborough DBIA and participating local businesses, artists and arts organizations.

From dawn to dusk, on the street and off, come and taste all things cultural happening right here in Peterborough at ARTSWEEK.

Please see full project descriptions and calendar.
